Your Next Stamp January Release and Stencils 3 Ways

January is the month I pull out all of my adorable stamps about “Love”. In my house usually the upcoming Valentines Day is about making a few cards for my boys and some fun cards for their friends (not so much now that they are older). However if the past couple of years has taught me anything, sending a card to let people know that you love and appreciate them is important at anytime, so all those Valentine’s stamps are great for love messages all year round : ) Your Next Stamps January release is a mini one, but it is full of love to share.

Your Next Stamp online store is having an amazing sale with 30% off the online store. All the details can be found at the bottom of blog post.

I have created 3 cards here that all use the Whimsy Heart Stencil, but each card uses a different stencilling technique.

  1. Stencilling over a Mask

  2. Partial Stencilling

  3. Clear Embossing over a Stencil

Technique 1: Stencilling over a Mask

  • Position, stamp, colour and mask sloth from Sloffee Stamp Set. I chose to wipe away the tea pot so I could add a balloon in later. Alternatively you could stamp, colour and die cut out the sloth.

  • Add the negative portion of a circle mask to an A2 card front. You can simply die cut a circle out of A2 size masking paper or use one of the many stencil circle masks available out there.

  • Lay the Whimsy Heart Stencil over the circle mask.

  • Ink blend Kitsch Flamingo, Salty Ocean, Dried Marigold distress ink over the stencil.

  • Remove Whimsy Heart Stencil and blend little more ink over the hearts before removing the circle mask.

  • Stamp sentiment and add coloured, die cut balloon from Hammie I Heart You stamp and die set or any other balloon you may have.

  • Add to A2 card base.

Technique 2: Partial Stencilling

  • Stamp and emboss sentiment from Sprinkled with Love stamp set onto black card strip. Stamp, colour and die cut characters from Hammie I Heart You stamp and die set.

  • For the background; position and stamp with versarmark embossing ink the open heart stamps from both Hammie I Heart You and Sprinkled with Love stamp set on a mini slim line card stock and white heat emboss.

  • Ink blend Kitsch Flamingo and Worn Lipstick lightly over the backgound, slightly heavier around the outside of the card stock.

  • Using a water brush paint over the stamped and embossed hearts. Blot the water and colour away.

  • Now for the partial stencilling. Take the Whimsy Heart Stencil and randomly cover up portions of the ink blended card stock. Blend ink over stencil. Move and repeat until you are happy with how background looks.

  • Die cut the background with a Mini Slim Stitched Panel.

  • Layout the components onto a 3 1/2” x 6 1/2” card base.

Technique 3: Embossing over a Stencil

  • To create the focal part of the card. Lightly ink blend Kitsch Flamingo and Worn Lipstick distress ink over a piece of card stock.

  • Make sure the ink blended piece is fully dry before this next step. Lay the Whimsy Heart Stencil overtop of the ink blended piece and apply versarmark embossing ink. I just smooshed the ink pad onto the stencil but it could also be done with an ink belnding tool if you find that easier.

  • Heat emboss with clear embossing powder.

  • Add some more Kitsch Flamingo and Worn Lipstick distress ink over the backgound. I also added a little bit of seedless preserves around the top edge.

  • Using the Cute Scallop Rectangle with optional door die cut out of the background. Die cut additional pieces out of lightly coloured card stock.

  • I embellished the door with a simple vellum heart to keep the stencilled hearts the focus and used the sentiment inside the door from Hammie I Heart You stamp set.
